[synopsis] => Phineas Gage, the subject of the first neuroscience and psychology case study, was more than a medical curiosity. He was a young man adapting to life after an on-the-job injury left him with brain damage.

At the American Museum in New York, P.T. Barnum promoted Phineas as 'The Man with his Brains Blown Out." 1850/1851. In this novella, Phineas, his sister, Phoebe, and her husband, David, share their experiences during the years after the famous accident, how the family coped with Phineas's recovery, the challenges of traveling to California, and how his skull and tamping iron were delivered to a Harvard Museum where they are on display.

Based on a true story and known facts (at the time of writing), this work brings contemporary emotional qualities to the people who experienced a family tragedy.
